Set up Android apps

MiruXR can open the apps installed on your Android phone (YouTube, Maps, games and more) as floating windows in your glasses. Before the first time, you do a short setup on your phone. You do it only once, it takes about 2 minutes, and you don't need root or any other app.

Android
  • An Android phone with Android 11 or newer.
  • A Wi-Fi network. It does not need internet. Android only lets you turn on Wireless debugging while the phone is on Wi-Fi.
  • Your glasses connected and MiruXR open.

MiruXR needs Android's Wireless debugging to open other apps inside your glasses. Android has no simpler way to allow this.

You can start from the glasses or from the phone:

  • In the glasses: open the Deck and go to the Android section (on the left side of the Deck). On the card Android apps in your glasses, choose Start.
  • On the phone: when the controller screen says Android apps in your space: one-time setup, tap Set up.

The steps then show on your phone, and the glasses show the same steps. Each step checks itself off when you finish it. There is no Next button.

When the setup starts, MiruXR asks to show notifications. Allow it: in step 4 you type a code in MiruXR's notification.

The step is called Unlock developer options.

  1. Tap Open About phone. MiruXR opens that page in Android Settings.
  2. Tap Build number 7 times, until Android says you are now a developer. Android may ask for your PIN.

On some phones the path is different:

  • Samsung: Settings > About phone > Software information > Build number.
  • Xiaomi, Redmi and POCO: Settings > About phone, then tap the OS version 7 times.

The step is called Turn on Wireless debugging.

  1. Tap Open Developer options.
  2. Turn on Wireless debugging.
  3. Android asks if you want to allow wireless debugging on this network. Allow it.
A settings row next to a box with six digits
  1. Inside Wireless debugging, tap Pair device with pairing code.
  2. A 6-digit code appears. Keep that screen open.
A notification with a six-digit code field
  1. Without leaving the pairing screen, pull down your notifications.
  2. Find the MiruXR notification and tap Type code.
  3. Type the 6 digits and send.

When it works, MiruXR says All set! Your Android apps are ready. Now continue with Use Android apps.

Android turns Wireless debugging off every time the phone restarts. Your phone stays paired, so you don't repeat the whole setup.

  • MiruXR shows a notification called Android apps are off. Tap it, turn on Wireless debugging again, and MiruXR does the rest.
  • If Android also turned off Developer options, turn them on first (step 1), then Wireless debugging.
  • Connect to a Wi-Fi network (no internet needed): connect the phone to any Wi-Fi network, then continue.
  • Couldn't pair. Try again: the code changes every time the pairing screen opens. Open Pair device with pairing code again and type the new code. Keep the pairing screen open while you type.
  • The notification with the code doesn't appear: in Android settings, allow notifications for MiruXR. Then open the pairing screen again.
  • Unlock your phone to continue: unlock the phone. The setup only continues with the phone unlocked.
  • The controller screen says Turn on Wireless debugging to use Android apps: tap Turn on and turn on Wireless debugging.
  • The controller screen says Android apps could not start: tap Retry.
  • You removed MiruXR from the paired devices in Wireless debugging: do the setup again from the start.
