Environments

An environment is what you see behind your windows. Normally it is the real world, because the glasses are see-through. You can put a 360 photo behind your windows instead, like a beach or a cinema. With the XREAL Eye camera, you can also see your room through the glasses.

  1. In Windows (Theater or Spatial), open the Environment panel with the mountains button. It is at the top of the deck and, in Spatial, also on the strip.
  2. Point at an environment and tap it.
  3. The first time you choose a 360 background, MiruXR downloads it. The card shows its size before you download it, and its progress while it downloads. After that it stays on your phone.
  4. To close the panel, tap outside it.

The mountains button doesn't show in the HUD, because the HUD never has a background.

Environment What you see
None The real world, as usual
Passthrough Your room, through the XREAL Eye camera. Only shows when an Eye is attached to the glasses
Beach, Ocean sunrise, Mountains, Lake at dusk, Misty forest, Night sky, Cinema, Fireplace A 360 photo all around you, behind your windows

The 360 backgrounds are big downloads. Use Wi-Fi if you can.

With a 360 background, the panel shows Immersion. Tap it to go through three levels:

  1. The background shows lightly behind your windows, and you still see some of the room.
  2. The background covers more of the room.
  3. The background covers the room completely.

To make the background visible on see-through glasses, MiruXR also darkens the glasses' lenses at each level, when your glasses can do that. When you go back to None, your own dimming setting comes back.

With Passthrough, the panel shows Size instead:

Size What you get
True size Things look their real size. Softer, since it crops and magnifies.
Wide Everything the camera sees. Sharper, but the world looks smaller.
Fill Fills the screen, cropping the edges.

On iPhone, Passthrough needs iOS 17 or newer.

  • Environments are for Windows. The HUD keeps your view clear, so it never shows a background. A VR game shows its own world.
  • With head tracking, the background stays in place around you when you turn your head. Center turns it so its front is where you are looking. See Center the view.
  • Without head tracking (for example Air glasses on iPhone), the background stays still behind your screen, like a backdrop.
  • If a download fails, MiruXR says Couldn't download the environment. Check your internet connection and choose the environment again.
