Set up VR games
Do these steps once, in this order. After that, you only open a game.
AndroidThe setup happens on your phone, with your glasses connected and MiruXR open. MiruXR keeps track of where you are: on the phone, open MiruXR's Settings (the sliders button on the controller screen) and look at the VR games (experimental) group. Under Use MiruXR in OpenXR games it says which step is next, and tapping the row takes you there.
1. Set up Android apps (recommended)
Section titled "1. Set up Android apps (recommended)"Do the Android apps setup first. You can play some games without it, but with it:
- you open games from the glasses, and the game plays in its own window,
- your phone can be the controller,
- on Android 15 or newer, your physical controller can be your VR hands.
2. Install the OpenXR Runtime Broker
Section titled "2. Install the OpenXR Runtime Broker"The OpenXR Runtime Broker is a free app on Google Play from the Khronos Group, the group behind OpenXR. VR games use it to find the headset.
- In MiruXR's Settings, find Use MiruXR in OpenXR games. It says Install the app that connects your games.
- Tap the row. Google Play opens on the OpenXR Runtime Broker.
- Install it.
You can also search Google Play for "OpenXR Runtime Broker".
3. Choose MiruXR in the Broker
Section titled "3. Choose MiruXR in the Broker"- Go back to MiruXR. The row now says On your phone, choose MiruXR.
- Tap the row. The OpenXR Runtime Broker opens.
- Choose MiruXR.
- Go back to MiruXR. The row moves to step 2.
You can also do this from the glasses: in the VR tab, open First steps in VR. The first page has Open on my phone, which opens the Broker on your phone. See First steps in the glasses below.
4. Connect a controller (or use your phone)
Section titled "4. Connect a controller (or use your phone)"The row says Connect a controller (Joy-Con, PlayStation, Xbox). Tap it to open the phone's Bluetooth settings.
- Joy-Con, PlayStation, Xbox and most controllers: hold the controller's pairing button until its lights flash. Then choose it in Bluetooth.
- Joy-Con 2 (Switch 2): these connect from the glasses, not from Bluetooth settings. In the Controllers tab, choose Connect another controller and then Find Joy-Con 2. The first time, MiruXR asks for permission to find nearby devices: allow it on the phone. Then press the small sync button on the rail of each Joy-Con 2.
- No controller: skip this step. Your phone works as the controller when you open the game from the glasses. The row moves on after your first game.
More in Controllers.
5. Install a VR game
Section titled "5. Install a VR game"Install a VR game for Android that uses OpenXR. Some examples are in What you can play.
- Some games have their own VR switch in their settings. Check it is on (see If the game opens on the phone below).
- For VR games from Steam, install the GameNative app and follow GameNative games.
6. Open the game from the glasses
Section titled "6. Open the game from the glasses"The row says it too: open the game from Android, in the Deck of your glasses.
- Open the Deck and choose the Android section.
- Tap the game.
- The game opens in your glasses. With XREAL One Series glasses, they switch to 3D by themselves.
You can also open the game on the phone. Then the phone screen belongs to the game, so the phone can't be the controller.
The first time, MiruXR shows two things over the game: Before you play (if your controllers have motion sensors) and How to play, with the buttons of your controller. Both are explained in Play a VR game.
First steps in the glasses
Section titled "First steps in the glasses"MiruXR also has a short guide in the glasses that takes you from connecting a controller to playing. Open it in the VR tab with First steps in VR. The row shows how far you are, for example "2 of 5".
- Just once, on your phone: choose MiruXR in the Broker (only if it is not chosen yet).
- Connect your controllers.
- Point and pull: point each controller ahead and pull its trigger.
- Your magic button: practice centering.
- Ready to play!
Each step checks itself off when you do it. The button B skips a step. The guide may also open by itself the first time you connect a controller.
To open the VR tab: tap the settings button (sliders) on the strip at the top of the glasses, then choose VR.
Check that it worked
Section titled "Check that it worked"- On the phone, the row under Use MiruXR in OpenXR games says Ready to play with the name of your controller.
- While a game is open, the row says "Connected: the app is using your glasses."
- In the glasses, the game stays in place when you turn your head.
If the row says "Connected. For stereo, switch your glasses to 3D from their menu.", the game is working, but in 2D. Switch the glasses to 3D from their own menu.
If the game opens on the phone
Section titled "If the game opens on the phone"If the game plays on the phone screen instead of in the glasses, check these, in order:
- MiruXR is not chosen in the Broker. The row still says step 1. Tap it and choose MiruXR.
- The glasses are not connected, or MiruXR is closed. MiruXR shows a notice called Connect your glasses. Connect the glasses, open MiruXR, then open the game again.
- The game's own VR setting is off. For example, in DolphinXR: open its Settings, then Runtime, and turn on Enable OpenXR on Quest.
- DolphinXR on a phone with a Mali graphics chip (like the Google Pixel 8, or Samsung phones with an Exynos chip): in DolphinXR, turn Launch games in VR off. If it is on, DolphinXR says "Stereoscopic 3D isn't supported by your GPU" and plays on the phone. With it off, the game plays on a big flat screen in VR.
- A GameNative game: you need the XR version of GameNative. MiruXR says To play in VR, install the XR version of GameNative (legacy-xr). See GameNative games.
- The game only works with one specific headset. Some games are made only for one headset and don't look for others. These can't use MiruXR.
Still not working? Report a bug and tell us the name of the game.
