Move in games with the XREAL Eye (Beta)

The XREAL Eye is a small camera that clips onto XREAL One Series glasses. With it, your glasses see the room, so in VR games you can lean, crouch and take steps, not only turn your head. This is called 6DoF.

Android

No Eye? Your phone can do the same job. See Move in games with your phone on your chest.

  • XREAL One Series glasses with the XREAL Eye attached. It was tested on the XREAL One Pro.
  • An Android phone with VR games set up.
  • A room with light and with things to see. A blank wall is hard for the camera.

With the Eye attached, 6DoF is on by default.

  1. In the glasses, open the settings panel (the sliders button on the strip) and choose the VR tab.
  2. Choose the 6DoF row. Under it, you can see how it is going.
  3. Use the switch to turn it on or off.

6DoF starts when a game opens. MiruXR shows short steps over the game, with a ring that fills as you go:

  1. Stay still for a moment: look at something with detail (not a blank wall) and hold still until the ring turns green.
  2. Move your head from side to side: slowly, looking around the room. This is how it learns distances. When the ring fills, you are set.
  3. Done: you can move now. Lean, crouch or take a step.

After that, MiruXR calibrates your controllers, as usual. See Play a VR game.

MiruXR does not keep a map of your room. It learns the room again each time you play.

  • Play the game in 3D. If the game is in 2D, things near you don't stay in place when you move (MiruXR tells you once per game). In 3D they do.
  • Move carefully. Keep the space around you clear, and take small steps.
  • Center when you need to. Hold the center button of your controller to bring the game in front of you again. See Center the view.
  • The world drifts or jumps: turn on more light, face a part of the room with more things to see, and stay still for a moment.
  • The 6DoF row is missing: check that the XREAL Eye is attached to the glasses.
  • It still doesn't work: turn 6DoF off in the VR tab. The game then follows the rotation of your head only, like without the Eye.
